Preserving the Albanian Muslim identity and promoting harmony, mutual understanding and cooperation among other communities in Australia. We opened the first Mosque in Melbourne in 1969.Today, the AAIS continues to serve both the Albanian Muslim community and the broader Muslim community of Melbourne. It is the largest Albanian Muslim organisation in Australia with nearly 1000 financial member families.
The Executive Committee Board is the governing body of the AAIS, comprised of thirteen elected voluntary financial members. The AAIS also has an active Women’s Committee and Youth Group.
Religious Classes
The AAIS offers Albanian Language Classes (Friday nights) and Religious – Islamic/Quran Classes (Saturdays). We have classes for Juniors (Kinder – Grade 1), Primary (Grade 2-6) and Secondary (Year 7-12) students.These run from the AAIS Youth Centre and are an AAIS Financial Member service.
Weddings / Nikahs
The AAIS offers wedding services. The AAIS is able to offer legal weddings in accordance with Australian law with the Imam as Celebrant. We also offer Islamic marriage ceremonies (nikah) with the Imam. If you would like to have your wedding ceremony at the Albanian Mosque or for the Imam to officiate at an off-site venue, this can be arranged.
Counselling Services
The AAIS offers home and hospital visitations for members who are unwell or in hospice care. The Imam is able to visit to provide comfort and care from a religious perspective. The AAIS offers counselling services. The Imam is able to counsel on a variety of matters including: pre-marital counselling, marriage counselling, family counselling and other counselling matters as required.
Funeral Services
The AAIS offers Islamic funeral services. The AAIS is able to offer comfort to the family of the deceased during their time of need. The funeral rites are followed in accordance with Islamic law. The body is washed and shrouded, the janazah prayer is performed and then the body is buried at the cemetery.
AAIS Women’s Committee
The AAIS Women’s Committee was formed in 2005 with the primary goal of organising social, religious and fundraising activities for women and children in the Albanian community. They are an active group who volunteer in organising many AAIS events in the yearly calendar.
