The Islamic Society of Victoria (ISV) is a community organisation with the vision of providing Islamic services to the Muslims of Victoria and to provide the wider Australian community a better understanding of Islam. Through these services, the ISV plays an important role in enhancing the interfaith and social cohesive landscape of Victoria. The ISV is well known in establishing one of the first large scale Mosque in 1975, led by the late Sheikh Fehmi Naji El-Imam, who was appointed as Grand Mufti of Australia from 2007 to 2011.

Our Mission
The ISV provides Islamic services to the Muslim community of Victoria which include one of the first large scale mosque in Victoria, marriage services, funeral, education, interfaith programs and events to enhance the interfaith landscape in Victoria. ISV aims to foster and facility community harmony, interfaith understanding, multiculturalism and understanding of Islam.
ISV Community Language School
The school has been operating since 1976. It focuses on the Arabic language and providing Islamic Education to children in the community. The love of language and Islamic teaching is what drives our passionate support team who are educated professionals from a wide range of specialties.
Every Saturday and Sunday morning and afternoon during the school term, we run government-accredited Arabic classes. There’s something for everyone; from Kinder level through to Grade 10. At ISV Language School, each child is treated with respect and encouraged to develop a strong sense of bicultural identity.
Community Services
Offering religious, social and community services i.e. refugee and migrant support, funeral services, religious events and festivals, womens services, weekend language school, educational programs and interfaith dialogue
Health Clinic Services
The ISV Health Clinic aims to establish a comprehensive Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centre to provide effective treatment, counselling, and support to individuals struggling with substance abuse.
Janazah (Funeral Etiquette)
Preston Mosque offers a Janazah Burial Service for muslims across Victoria, ensuring that Muslims are buried according to Islamic burial rites. Our Janazah Burial Service assists the deceased family with the following:
- Obtaining the death certificate.
- Moving the deceased to the mosque and then to the cemetery.
- Preparing the deceased for the burial (ghusl).
- Making the arrangements for the funeral service (Janazah).
- Making the arrangements for the burial.
- One of the most difficult times that we have to face is the devastating period we go through
when someone very dear and precious is no longer with us. The feelings of bereavement and deprivation overcome us and we tend to go into a state of depression and grief. It is at this stage that we require the emotional support of close family and friends.
